Stool grate

The stool grate is one of the most commonly used open fire grates, stool grates are available for 16" fires and 18" fires and there is also a 16" stool grate with an optional guard at the front.  Whilst they are refered to as 16" and 18" grates the size relates to the fireplace opening size not the front of the grate so a 16" grate will actually measure around 14.5" across the front.

Queen Star grate

The Queen Star fire (also referred to as the all-night burner or over-night burner) was a very popular open fire, we stock grates for the 16" fire and can order them for the 18" fire (these sizes refer to the measurement accross the fire front not the front of the grate), the standard Queen Star grate is tapered towards the back and in most cases the have 2 legs at the back although there are some with no legs.  The Queen Star front was also used with the Grate Hydrograte (or Triple Pass) back boiler, see below for grates for use with the Hydrograte back boiler.

Hydrograte grate

The Grant Hydrograte or Triple Pass back boiler was a high output back boiler used in conjunction with the Queen Star front, the most popular sizes are the 16" and 18" fires but there was also a 20" version, these sizes refer to the measurement of the fire front not the front of the grate.

We usually have the grates and ashpans for the 16" Hydrogrates in stock.  

Baxi Burnall Grate

The Baxi Burnall fire is a very popular open fire, which has an ashpan sunk below the fireplace and a controllable air supply below the grate which provides some control over the fire.  The fires are available to suit opening sizes of 16", 18", 20", 22" and 24", these sizes refer to the measurement at the front of the fireplace opening not the front of the grate, a 16" Baxi Burnall grate actually measures about 13" at the front.

We usually have the 16" and 18" grates and liftout ashcans for the Baxi Burnall in stock, we often have external empty ashcan (all one size) as well.  

Other open fire grates

We also stock or can source a wide range of other open fire grates, such as the Dunsley Firefly (pictured), Dunsley Enterprise, Classic, Joyce, Astra, Regal and others, if you are not sure which fire you have please come into the showroom (preferably with the old grate) and we will try to identify it for you and let you know if it is still available, we have pictures of many of the grates that are, or were, available which can often help with identification.
